Grade: A-
DVD » After months of rumors about Kurt Cobain's deteriorating health leading to a band break-up, and just days after his only child was born, the Nirvana leader was wheeled onstage wearing a hospital gown. This was Aug. 30, 1992 at the Reading Festival, and the grunge rock trio was supposed to headline the concert. Cobain stood up and then collapsed, before it became apparent he was joking. Cobain remained in the hospital gown for the rest of the 25-song set and he, bassist Krist Novoselic and drummer Dave Grohl tore the roof off the place in what many consider the best rock concert ever. The color-corrected video is marred by jarringly quick edits and a lack of footage of the crowd
interacting with the energized band, but the sound is pristine and they play nearly all of "Nevermind" and two covers. On the night of "Live at Reading," Nirvana's singing and scorching musicianship proved they were the best band in the world.
