St. George • After losing by 18 points to Juan Diego early in the season, the Juab girls' basketball team had something to prove in Thursday's rematch at the Class 3A basketball tournament at Dixie State College.

"They killed us at the first of the season," said Juab's Tessa Bradford, whose 16 points led the Wasps to a 51-38 upset of the Region 10 champion Soaring Eagle. "It was pretty much revenge. We wanted it and we were going to do whatever it took to get it. They came in thinking it wasn't even going to be a game. So we got back at them."

That Juab did.

The Wasps simply outhustled Juan Diego. They forced more turnovers, got to more loose balls and hit the offensive boards hard. The Soaring Eagle seemed stunned by Juab's aggressive play and never seemed to get comfortable.

"It was phenomenal," said Juab guard Jessica Barker, who scored 14 points and seemed to grab nearly every offensive rebound. "Juan Diego is a fantastic team. When you play a team like that and work hard, it comes back to a great ending."

Wasp coach Brady Farr, whose team finished second in Region 12 and will get another region champion Friday when it meets Snow Canyon in a 12:50 p.m. semifinal game, said his team wasn't prepared the first time it met Juan Diego.

"We thought if we could hold them under 40, we would have our chance," he said. "They are a high scoring team. In the games they have lost, they scored under 42 points."

Monique Mills led Juan Diego with 13 points.
