Fire crews contained a wildfire near Layton and battled a new blaze Sunday near Camp Williams.

The human-caused Ridge Fire, which led to mandatory evacuations Saturday night in the Layton Ridge subdivision, was fully contained about 10 p.m. Sunday, fire officials said. It had burned 47 acres.

About 20 homes in Layton Ridge and nine homes along 3050 North were evacuated; those living in the evacuation zones were allowed to return home about noon Sunday. No homes were damaged, and the Red Cross closed its evacuation center at Northridge High School.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation, but the Layton Police Department was asking anyone with information to call them at 801-497-8300.

Lightning on Sunday caused a fire near Camp Williams above Herriman. The Pinyon Fire had burned about 100 acres by about 10 p.m., the Utah National Guard reported. No structures were threatened.

The Pumpkin Fire, about 20 miles east of Spanish Fork and a mile north of Highway 6, also continued to burn Sunday. At last report, it had burned about 180 acres.

The fire, which was sparked by lightning, was burning vegetation in a remote area. Officials said the fire was not expected to grow rapidly Sunday.

The Sheep Creek Campground and the Tie Fork Rest Area remained closed because they were being used for fire operations.

Crews also were fighting a lightning-caused fire in Iron County. The Pyramid Fire was burning northwest of Enterprise and south of Modena, fire officials reported.

The Pine Canyon Fire had burned 375 acres 3 miles east of Grouse Creek in Box Elder County; it was 15 percent contained, county officials reported.
